Devlog #3 (First Puzzle)
As our next step, we focused on working on a paper prototype for our game. We did a team meeting in Discord, discussing which seed ability we were going to make a puzzle out of and brainstorming possible puzzle elements that work well with our seed ability. Because the team meeting was online, we used Miro to build the puzzle. After some time of discussion, the whole team agreed to make a puzzle for the vine seed. We came up with a good amount of puzzle elements and interactions that are possible with the vine seed. The other choice for seed ability was the bouncy mushroom, but we thought that the vine seed was easier.
Somewhere in the middle of the discussion, we agreed to have a mana bar and a limit on the amount of seeds the player can plant at the same time. The seed growth is only temporary and the more mana you use, the longer it stays mature before it goes back to a sprout.
After brainstorming, we decided to make a puzzle with moving platforms. The vine's ability can make a bridge to cross gaps and temporarily hold or deactivate machinery by holding on to its gears. This allows the players to temporarily stop the moving platform and hold them at a certain position. From here, we came up with this puzzle.
One moving platform is constantly moving (yellow) and the other (gray) moves when the lever is pulled. Both moving platforms also have machinery that players can grow vines on to stop the moving platforms from moving. To solve the puzzle, the player needs to line up the moving platform so that they can cross the large gap.
